Most of the work here is the last ten percent: the error message, the empty state, the thing that happens when the network drops. That part is the job, not the tidying up after it.

The habit that matters most is opening the thing and looking at it, instead of reasoning about what it probably does.

Plainly, to people who are not engineers. Half of building a product people trust is saying what it does in words they already use.
