How to check an insurance agent's license in Colorado

Before you share details with an insurance agent in Colorado, check their licence on the official record. It takes a minute and doesn't need the agent's help.

The official lookup

Colorado's insurance department runs its own licence search. The NAIC's directory links to every state insurance department.

Open the Find the state insurance department ↗

What to search

Search by the agent's name, their licence number or their National Producer Number (NPN). Ask the agent for the number; a licensed agent can give it straight away.

What the record should show

  • The same name the agent gave you.
  • An active licence in Colorado, if they're selling to you there.
  • The right line of insurance: life, health, property and casualty are separate.

If the record doesn't match, don't go ahead. Colorado's insurance department takes reports.

On an Aicopack page

An agent's Aicopack page lists the states they say they're licensed in, and Colorado's line opens this same lookup.
