How to check an insurance agent's license in Ohio

Before you share details with an insurance agent in Ohio, check their licence on the official record. It takes a minute and doesn't need the agent's help.

The official lookup

Ohio's insurance licences are checked on the Ohio Department of Insurance's own lookup.

Open the Ohio Department of Insurance ↗

What to search

Search by the agent's name, their licence number or their National Producer Number (NPN). Ask the agent for the number; a licensed agent can give it straight away.

What the record should show

  • The same name the agent gave you.
  • An active licence in Ohio, if they're selling to you there.
  • The right line of insurance: life, health, property and casualty are separate.

If the record doesn't match, don't go ahead. Ohio's insurance department takes reports.

On an Aicopack page

An agent's Aicopack page lists the states they say they're licensed in, and Ohio's line opens this same lookup.
