How to check an insurance agent's license in Tennessee

The official lookup
Tennessee's insurance licences are checked on the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance's own lookup.
What to search
Search by the agent's name, their licence number or their National Producer Number (NPN). Ask the agent for the number; a licensed agent can give it straight away.
What the record should show
- The same name the agent gave you.
- An active licence in Tennessee, if they're selling to you there.
- The right line of insurance: life, health, property and casualty are separate.
If the record doesn't match, don't go ahead. Tennessee's insurance department takes reports.
